Parliament_Hill

Today was our trip to Parliament Hill. I hope that everyone had a really good time, and learned some interesting things about Parliament Hill and the Supreme Court. Thanks to Mme Morneau for organizing the buses, Mr. & Mrs. Smith for organizing the day, and all of the parent volunteers who joined us today.

If we wrote in our agenda, which we didn’t, we would have written:

  • Writing (optional): As mentioned above, write a post telling us what you liked best about the trip and/or what you learned that you thought was interesting or just plain neat!
  • Reminder: Tomorrow is our third drumming session with Leo Brooks. You’ve done the hard work of building a drum… now you get to learn how to play it!
  • Speeches: Don’t forget that our public speaking starts, for some, tomorrow afternoon. Finish writing your speeches and get practicing!

I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s field trip to Parliament Hill and the Supreme Court of Canada.  Make sure you check the weather report tomorrow morning and dress accordingly!

A smoky and hazy day today!  I hope the forest fires are under control in Quebec.  I’m told that is where the smoke is coming from.

In your agenda today:

  • A letter about an upcoming breakfast for our volunteers was sent home today
  • A letter about tomorrow’s Parliament Hill field trip went home today.  Click here for a copy.

Speeches start on Wednesday!

Another hot day!  Luckily, we were able to spend the majority of the day away from the hot and stuff portable we call home during the day!  Twenty five drums were built in the D & T room this morning.  Thanks, Leo, for all of your hard work in helping us figure out how to do it!  The middle of the day was spent in the portables working on speeches and watching episode 4 of the 2nd Voyage of the Mimi.  The last part of the day found us in the library for drama and in the computer lab for…computers!

In your agenda:

  • Speeches need to be written by Friday
  • Speeches will be given starting next Wednesday.  I’ll post the schedule soon!
  • Book Fair Friday, so bring in those raffle ticket stubs!

[A message from Mme Lister]

The time to present François and all his friends is here! Costumes and props are highly recommended but not mandatory. Students should be able to say their lines from memory, as they have been told all semester. Please take advantage of the long weekend for some extra practice.

The students were given the opportunity to have some say in when they would present. This is a schedule of what they decided:

Friday May 28th ~ Group 3

Maggie, Ryan, Sheridan, Sydney, Stephanie, Greg, Keegan and Lauren

Monday May 31st ~ Group 2

Elisabeth, Alex, Kayla, Devin, Caitlin, Calysta, Maxim, Charlie and Talia

Thursday June 3rd ~ Group 1

Nicole, Cameron, Dylan, Katherine, Emily, Evan, Dillon, and Katie

In your agenda:

  • Track & Field is tomorrow.  Be sure to be ready for a hot day. You should have sunscreen, a hat, and a water bottle in order to be comfortable and sun safe tomorrow. Remember to wear your fastest shoes.Wanted! Parent volunteers to help with drum building next Wednesday from 9:30 – 10:55.
  • Raffle tickets for the ALC Book Fair were sent home today.
  • Choose a speech topic for Tuesday.  Better yet, start writing it!  We need to have speeches written by next Friday so we can have time to practice them.  Speeches need to be 2 – 4 minutes in length.  I recommend topics you already know a lot about and don’t have to research as we won’t have time to conduct research at school.  You are welcome, of course, to do research at home.
